US freeze of Venezuelan authorities’ assets

US President Donald Trump has issued a decree on the freezing of the Venezuelan authorities’ assets.

The document circulated by the White House states: “All property and interests in property of the Government of Venezuela that are in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States, or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of any United States person are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in.

“The Government of Venezuela” means the state and government of Venezuela, any political unit, department or their structures, including the Central Bank of Venezuela and state-owned oil company, PDVSA.

The freezing of the assets are reported to have come into force since August 5.

Director General of the Institute of regional problems Dmitry Zhuravlev expressed his opinion, saying that “it is clear why they have done it: to undermine economic stability in Venezuela. A blow to the energy system and the freezing of gold reserves did not lead to the resignation of the head of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and the arrival of the pro-American president. Now – a new blow. If there is no money, then they will give up – that’s the American position.”

In his opinion the Americans has only one way to work that says: “Any other country is an unfinished USA, so you need to hit in a way that would be fatal in the US.” But for other countries, it may not be fatal.

“For sure, now Venezuela will be harder, but this doesn’t mean at all that the Americans will immediately win,” Dmitry Zhuravlev believes.
