US envoy in Bern to step down

The US Ambassador to Switzerland is to step down at the end of next year in order to return to private sector, reported SwissInfo Sunday.

Edward McMullen, who took the post in November 2017, announced the news in an interview with the Swiss Newspaper SonntagsBlick Sunday. “I told President Trump that it was honour for me to participate in US-Swiss relations during this mandate. But I am an entrepreneur, not a politician,” he said.

McMullen, who was a head of an advertising firm, is planning to return to the private sector after the 2020 US presidential election, which will take place in November 2020.

“I would definitely stay a few more months if a free-trade agreement was in a crucial phase and the president wished me to do so,” McMullen added.
