Turkish-Russian Relations depend on Washington’s embargo

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned about strengthening cooperation with Russia providing that the U.S. does not cancel its embargo on the selling of significant fighter jet.

Ankara is eager to buy the Su-35, new Russian fighter bomber, recalling the purchase of the Russian S-400 missile system.

“When we bought the S-400, we did not ask anyone [for permission]. So, if we make a decision, we will purchase them [Su-35],” Erdogan said.

Thus, the outcome of the fate of buying the Russian military jet depends on Washington. Ankara urged US President Donald Trump to renew the selling of the American F-35 fighter jet to Turkey, which was frozen in response to the purchase of the S-400.

“If the F-35 issue is not resolved, we will take the necessary steps,” Erdogan said.

The obtaining of the Russian jets is supposed to be a positive shift to Turkish-Russian Relations.

Earlier, the head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation, Dmitry Shugayev, corroborated about the holding negotiations on the purchase. However, the agreement has not signed yet.
