President Donald Trump spoke about migrants at a Florida rally on Wednesday. After saying that “border security people” are not allowed to use weapons even when there are “hundreds and hundreds” of migrants “marching up,” the president rhetorically asked “How do you stop these people?”. Someone from the audience in response to a question shouted “shoot them,” which made President giggle. Then Trump said, “Only in the Panhandle you can get away with that statement,” and after the crown laughed and cheered he repeated, “only in the Panhandle.”
“I mean, when you have 15,000 people marching up, and you have hundreds and hundreds of people, and you have two or three border security people that are brave and great – and don’t forget, we don’t let them and we can’t let them use weapons. We can’t. Other countries do. We can’t. I would never do that,” said Mr. Trump.
Agents at the border really are limited in the use of weapons, however, in 2018 they were authorized to use lethal force if necessary.
