US President Donald Trump said he would “personally vouch” for the bail of an American rapper ASAP Rocky detained in Sweden, reported The Washington Examiner Saturday.
ASAP Rocky has been jailed in Sweden since July 3 for alleged “gross assault.” On June 30 the rapper was attacked by two young men, they got in a street fight, which led to the imprisonment of both sides. The investigation is still ongoing.
President Trump said Friday that he received many requests to intervene and help to release ASAP.
“I personally don’t know A$AP Rocky, but I can tell you that he has tremendous support from the African American community in this country. And when I say African American, I think I can really say from everybody in this country, because we’re all one.”
“I have been called by so many people asking me to help A$AP Rocky, actually the one who knew about A$AP Rocky was our first lady,” Trump added. The First Lady Melania Trump said she would be working on the matter with the Department of State to get ASAP home.
Saturday morning Trump tweeted that he had spoken with the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven on the issue and added that they would speak again “in the next 48 hours.”
Just had a very good call with @SwedishPM Stefan Löfven who assured me that American citizen A$AP Rocky will be treated fairly. Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative….
