Trump defends Pelosi, says she is “not racist”

US President Donald Trump, Republican, supported House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat, in her fight with some freshman class members of Congress, reported the Associated Press Friday.

Pelosi has been in a dispute with four freshmen Democrats over a number of issues. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been criticizing Pelosi’s actions and accused Pelosi of being a racist and “singling out” her and other freshmen, including Ayana Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar. The fight between the top and freshmen Democrats is considered to be a threat to the unity of the Democratic Party.

Although President Trump and Pelosi have been criticizing each other and the House Speaker had previously said she wanted to see Trump “in prison,” Trump defended the top Democrat and said Pelosi was “absolutely not a racist.” “For them to call her a racist is a disgrace,” Trump said. He also stated that she should be treated “with respect.”

“I think Cortez is being very disrespectful to somebody who’s been there a long time,” Trump said. “I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her. And you know what, I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on.”
