Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow that the first stage of the American “deal of the century” on the Middle East settlement contradicts the decisions of the UN Security Council.
“In initial stage I say that this economic part is consist of $50 billion invested, as I said before: about half amount – into Palestine, the rest of $25 billion is going to be invested into the infrastructure of those countries where Palestinian refugees have been staying for a long time,” the Russian minister commented the first stage of the new U.S. plan on the Middle East settlement by Senior Adviser to the U.S. President Jared Kushner. According to him, $50 billion of investments are going to be put into economic development of Palestinian territories and neighbouring Arabian countries and integration as well. Arabian media has called this plan the “deal of the the century”.
“If it is aimed at remaining these refugees there forever, and the relevant countries get certain financial injections for it – this one contradicts the decisions of the UN Security Council, which imply such a Palestinian state among other things will be able to receive refugees from countries where they are now, “- said the Minister. He also stated that without seeing the whole picture of the American proposal, it is very difficult to make final conclusions.
“That is why, we want our American colleagues to explain us their great vision, and not try to present to us by a piece of their ideas,” the head of Russian diplomacy concluded.
