Russian Foreign Minister says Moscow to continue stabilising situation in Middle East

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow will keep looking for courses of action in the regions of Middle East, North Africa and Persian Gulf to resolve current crises.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Lavrov said that Russia does and will continue helping Syria resolve the conflict. “Following principles of international law, Russia will continue assisting the settlement in Syria within the framework of the Astana format and UN mechanisms, helping to bring closer approaches of Libyan parties as the only way of restoring the statehood of this country that was ruined by NATO,” Lavrov said adding that Moscow wants to stabilize the situation.

Lavrov also said that Moscow is looking for ways to fairly resolve the long-time Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with all the related international agreements.

“We will stand for unacceptability of substituting legally binding decisions on the Iran’s nuclear program by illegitimate unilateral actions,» Lavrov said.
