US President Donald Trump is willing to step up a dialogue with the Russian president Vladimir Putin, said Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, on Sunday.
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit on Friday, where they discussed various issues, including current situations in Iran, Ukraine, Syria and Turkey. After the meeting Peskov stated that “the American president quite distinctly showed his intention to step up the dialogue. As for Putin, he has long been talking of his desire to go along the path of normalization of relations.”
According to a report by Interfax, President Trump also wants to work on trade issues between Russian and the US. At the press conference held in Osaka, Japan, Trump explained that Russia has goods that the US may be interested in.
Peskov also said that President Trump directed Steven Mnuchin, US Treasury Secretary, to discuss and work on current US-Russia trade issues with the Russian Minister of Finance Anton Sulivanov.
