Russia suspends all international flights

Government of the Russian Federation has ordered to suspend all the flight to and from foreign airports as a part of efforts to combat the quickly spreading coronavirus.

According to a new decree, Federal Air Transport Agency must suspend both regular and charter flights starting at midnight of March 27. The flights that bring Russian nationals home from foreign countries are not subjected to the rule.

“Regular and charter flights from Russian airports to and from foreign airports are to be suspended starting at midnight on March 27, 2020, with the exception of flights aimed at bringing Russian nationals back from overseas… and flights carried out in accordance with the government’s decisions,” reads the order by the government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation is now working on compiling lists of Russian citizens abroad, who need to return home. The Foreign Ministry was given till March 27 to provide the lists to the Transport Ministry, the consumer watchdog, the Health Ministry, the Interior Ministry and Aeroflot air carrier.
