Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (ROSCOMNADZOR) has appealed to Twitter administration, expressing its concern about the block of numerous Russian profiles. The information appeared on its website, RussiaToday reported.

The service obtained the information about mass restrictions on Twitter access to the Russians’ users profiles, including the project “Horoshiye Novosty” (lit. Good News) and the Chairman of Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on Development of the Information Community, Mass Media, and Mass Communications Alexander Malkevich.

The request letter is sent to the director of Twitter’s Public Policy and Communications team in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa Sinead McSweeney.

“Unfortunately, the circumstances and reasons for such actions from the Twitter company still remain unknown and surprising,” the letter writes.

ROSCOMNADZOR is concerned that the publications of the Russian users do not violate the terms of network usage and any other conditions.

Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya does not set aside from such strange conduct of the network.

“I have recently faced this kind of “demonstration of freedom of speech”. My page was also blocked without any explanations. There is no doubt that such actions run counter to the principle of freedom of speech and spreading the information,” she said.
