American couple Philip and April Schentrup, parents of a student killed in the 2018 mass shooting in Marjoty Stoneman Douglas High School, filed a lawsuit against the FBI Friday, reported 7News Sunday. It is the second lawsuit against the FBI filed by Parkland parents.
Carmen Schentrup and 16 more students and staff members were killed in February, 2018, by a nineteen-year-old expelled student Nikolas Cruz. Schentrup’s parents claim that the FBI mishandled a number of tips they had been given about the shooting.
According to media reports, in September 2017 Cruz posted a message on YouTube under the username “nikolas cruz” threatening to become a school shooter, yet FBI did not identify the user. One month before the shooting, someone reached out to the FBI tip line saying that Cruz again threatened to kill, however, the tip was not then forwarded to the local office.
The FBI did not comment on the matter claiming they cannot comment on pending litigation.
