Moscow is ready to respond to Washington’s decision to pull out from the Open Skies treaty, the RIA news reported.
The head of the ministry’s arms control and non-proliferation department of Russian Federation Vladimir Ermakov claimed on Wednesday that the US’ withdrawal threatens global security and Russia is ready to protect it.
“Of course. We’ve got everything ready. You’ll find out,” a high-ranking official said.
Washington earlier announced its withdrawal from the Open Skies treaty, which has been in force since 2002, with support of 34 countries. The document provides an opportunity to carry out short-notice unarmed surveillance flights to collect data on allies’ armed forces.
The United States and Russia could have controlled military activities one another until high-ranking US Democrats offered to leave the agreement and President Donald Trump supported the idea.
