Mick Mulvaney: Everything Trump says is offensive to some people

US Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney defended President Trump recent tweets about the House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings.

“Everything that Donald Trump says is offensive to some people,” said Mulvaney in an exclusive interview with Margaret Brennan of CBS.

When presented the fact that President Trump “has tweeted thirteen times in the past twenty-four hours” about Rep. Cummings and asked what president’s objective was, Mulvaney stated that Trump just wanted to “push back against what he sees as inaccuracies and lies.”

Cummings had previously made comments about conditions at the Southern Border, claiming that children of migrants “were sitting in their own feces,” which Mulvaney said was “misleadingly wrong.” In response to that President Trump tweeted Saturday that “the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cummings District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

Rep. Cummings is in charge of Baltimore, Maryland, which is a majority black district, therefore, many have criticized Trump’s Cummings attack as “racist,” saying that President’s comments were offensive to the Americans who do live there.

“I understand that everything that Donald Trump says is offensive to some people,” said Mulvaney. “Keep in mind about two weeks ago, the President said things that were critical of AOC and her squad and was immediately accused of being a racist. A couple of days later Nancy Pelosi said some things critical of that same group of people and she was defended by the media and by the folks on the left for not being racist when Donald Trump attacks people.”

Mulvaney argued that although President’s comments may have been perceived as racist, it does not mean they actually were racist, adding that they were hyperbolic. “The President is pushing back against what he sees as wrong. It’s how he’s done in the past and he’ll continue to do in the future,” he said.

“And I hope the folks actually pay attention to it and realize what Democrats in Congress are doing. Instead of helping people back home, they’re focusing on scandal in Washington, DC, which is the exact opposite of what they said they would do when they ran for election in 2018.”
