Kamala Harris, Democratic Senator and 2020 candidate, was praised by legal experts for questioning Attorney General William Barr on Wednesday as he appeared before Senate Judiciary Committee to testify about his handling of Mueller’s report.
Barr concluded there was no obstruction of justice by Donald Trump saying that the evidence in the special counsel’s 448-page report was insufficient. “In reaching your conclusion, did you personally review all of the underlying evidence?” asked Harris. Barr said that he did not. Harris went on asking whether Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had reviewed the underlying evidence. “No. We accepted the statements in the report as the factual record. We did not go underneath it to see whether or not they were accurate. We accepted it as accurate,” Barr responded and added that it is not unusual for one in his position not to review underlying evidence.
Mimi Rocah, former federal prosecutor and a legal analyst, said that Harris and one more 2020 Democratic candidate Amy Klobuchar “are excellent & tough questioners & I would love to see either or both of them debate Donald Trump.”
Trump criticized some candidates who questioned Barr, including Harris. President said Harris was “probably very nasty” during her questioning.
