Justin Amash seat in Congress to be challenged by Republicans

Rep. Justin Amash has become the first Republican in Congress calling for impeachment, now his third district seat will be challenged by other Republicans.

Amash posted a number of tweets saying that the US president Donald Trump committed obstruction of justice and the US Attorney General “misled” public on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s findings on Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential elections and “deliberately misrepresented” the investigation.

According to Amash, “multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction justice” were detailed in Mueller’s report.  “Any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence,” he added.

Jim Lower, Michigan State representative, has stated that he would now challenge Amash’s seat in Congress.

“I am a pro-Trump, pro-life, pro-jobs, pro-second amendment, pro-family values Republican,” said Lower. “Justin Amash’s tweets… calling for President Trump’s impeachment show how out of touch he is with the truth and how out of touch he is with people he represents.”

Another Republican and the House minority leader Kevin McCarthy has also commented on the matter. “It’s very disturbing. This is exactly what you would expect from Justin. He never supported the president. And I think he’s just looking for attention,” he said.

Senator Chris Coons, Democrat, though suggested that Amash has become the first Republian to have said publicly what many think privately.
