Representative Justine Amash, who announced Thursday he was leaving GOP, claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should start impeachment proceedings against the sitting US President Donald Trump, reported TPM Sunday.
In an interview with Jake Tapper of CNN, Amash stated that Pelosi is “making a mistake” and impeachment proceedings should be launched as soon as possible.
“From a principled, moral position, she’s making a mistake. From a strategic position, she’s making a mistake.”
“When she says things like, ‘Oh, I think that we need to have the strongest case before we go forward,’ what she’s telling the American people is she doesn’t think there’s a strong case,” Amash said. “If she doesn’t think that, then she shouldn’t open her mouth in the first place and say she thinks there’s impeachable conduct.”
Amash noted that American citizens probably did not read the report of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Russian meddling in US election and obstruction of justice by Trump. The report consists of 448 pages and Americans just do not have time to read it, said the congressman.
“They [Americans] expect Congress to do the work for them. They want Speaker Pelosi to do the work. They want other members to do the work and if she doesn’t want to go forward then we have a big problem.”
