Jerry Nadler, US House Judiciary Committee Chairman, claimed he would hold Corey Lewandowski, former Trump campaign manager, in contempt of Congress for not answering questions related to the US President Donald Trump, Washington Examiner reported.
Lewandowski appeared before the Committee panel Tuesday for a hearing, which comes as a part of the Committee’s review of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 US Presidential election and possible obstruction of justice by the sitting president.
At one point during the hearing Nadler stated that Lewandowski’s behavior was “completely unacceptable” and added that Americans deserve to know the truth. Nadler went on to state that the Committee was considering an option of holding Lewandowski in contempt of Congress.
“There is a far more troubling level of contempt on display here today and that is President Trump’s role in your refusal to answer questions,” Nadler said. “The pattern of obstruction laid out in the Mueller report has not stopped. You showed the American public in real time that this administration will do anything and everything in its power to obstruct the work of the Congress.”
Talking to the reporters after the hearing Lewandowski said COngress has no reasons to hold him in contempt. “I don’t have any reason to be held in contempt and I’ve told the members of Congress I’m happy to come back and answer more questions if they need me to, after the five- or six-hour charade I went through yesterday,” he said.
