Iraqi military base hosting US troops hit by rockets

Union III, a military base in Iraq stationed near the embassy of the US and hosting American troops, has been hit by a number of small rockets leading to no casualties.

Myles Caggins, spokesman for the coalition troops in the International Zone of Iraq, confirmed that the “small rockets impacted the Iraqi base.”

The Union III is the headquarters for the international coalition led by the US. The base is located in the enclave along with the state government buildings, foreign embassies and offices of the United Nations.

One of the rockets reportedly hit a logistics base located in a separate neighbourhood, which was found to be unusual as both the US and Iraqi assets were attacked at the same time.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

It was the 19th attack on the US assets in Iraq since October of 2019.
