In the interview with Forbes, the creator of FaceApp, Yaroslav Goncharov said that the company does not forward photos from users to Russian servers.
According to Goncharov, “most of the photos are processed by the cloud server … We upload [to the server] only the photos selected by the user for editing, and never send other photos from the phone to the cloud server.”
Goncharov admitted that FaceApp can save photos previously selected by users for editing in the cloud. According to him, the main reason for this is “productivity and traffic — we want to ensure that the user does not have to re-upload a photo for each further edit. Most of the images are destroyed on our servers within 48 hours from the moment of downloading,” the creator of the application noted.
He added that users can also make a request for the complete removal of the information uploaded to the FaceApp server. To do this, it is necessary to open the settings section, select the support section, and report the error using the word “privacy” in the subject line of the message. According to Goncharov, it will help speed up the process of deleting information from the server.
The businessman added that the company “does not sell and does not transfer to third parties information received from users.”
