US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the upcoming G7 summit would take place in his National Doral Golf Club in Miami.
“It’s a great place. It’s got tremendous acreage, many hundreds of acres, so we can handle whatever happens,” he said. “It’s right next to the airport, meaning a few minutes away… plus it has buildings that have 50 to 70 units in them, so each delegation can have its own building.”
“We absolutely believe this is the best place to have it,” acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said the White House press conference.
However, some officials believe that the President misuses his authorities, calling it “the most brazen example of the president’s corruption.” Democrats believe it would breach the foreign and domestic emoluments clauses to shield a commander in chief from outside influence., the Telegraph reported.
“He is exploiting his office and making official US government decisions for his personal financial gain,” Jerry Nadler, the chairman of the Democratice-led House Judiciary Committee, said.
