Nikki Haley, former UN Envoy, claimed that impeachment inquiry into the US President Donald Trump launched by Democrats does not expose any impeachable conduct, Daily Caller reported.
In an interview with Norah O’Donnell of CBS, Haley stated that President Trump’s phone conversation with the Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky o July 25 did not contain anything to spark the impeachment inquiry. Haley said that impeachment was a “death penalty for a public official” and President Trump did not deserve it.
“You’re going to impeach a president for asking for a favor that didn’t happen, and giving money, and it wasn’t withheld?” Haley asked. “I don’t know what you would impeach him on.”
“Impeachment is like the death penalty for a public official When you look at the transcript, there’s nothing in that transcript that warrants the death penalty for the president.”
When the CBS anchor argued that the released transcript was not compete and did contain Trump asking Zelensky for a “favor,” Haley explained that Ukrainian government never conducted the probe into Joe Biden and his son, yet it got the financial aid. “I mean, when you look at those, there’s just nothing impeachable there. And more than that, I think the biggest thing that bothers me is the American people should decide this. Why [do] we have a bunch of people in Congress making this decision?”
