The Federal Election Commission Democratic Chairwoman Ellen L. Weintraub said the probe into ties between National Rifle Association and Russia should be started immediately, reported Washington Times Wednesday.
“Some allegations are too serious to ignore. Too serious to simply take Respondents’ denials at face value. Too serious to play games with. Yet in this matter, my colleagues ran their usual evidence-blocking play and the Commission’s attorneys placed too much faith in the few facts Respondents put before us,” she wrote in a statement of reasons. She echoed the allegations that “a senior Russian central bank official with ties to President Putin funneled money to the National Rifle Association” in order to help then-a-nominee Donald Trump win the election.
Weintraub later posted on her Twitter the Republican members of the FEC “block all investigations of & enforcement against Russian Torshin & Butina re the NRA & the 2016 presidential election.”

Result: FEC does nothing to find out the truth behind one of the most blockbuster campaign finance allegations in recent memory. pic.twitter.com/KgrJLJTuZY
