US President Donald Trump said he “could certainly” support the return of Russia to the G-8, reported PressTV.
Speaking to the reporters in the White House Tuesday, President Trump said that “it’s much appropriate to have Russia in.”
“It should be the G8, because a lot of the things we talk about have to do with Russia,” Trump added. “I could certainly see it being the G-8 again and if someone would make that motion, I would be disposed to think about it very favorably.”
President Trump also said that former US President Obama wanted Russia out of the G-8 “because Putin outsmarted him.”
“President Obama thought it wasn’t a good thing to have Russia in. So he wanted Russia out,” he said.
Russia was excluded from the Group of Eight back in 2014. Russia formally withdrew from the G-8 in 2017. One year later President Trump claimed that Russia should be in again, however, Moscow then said it was focusing on other formats at the time.
