Barr skips Mueller hearing

Attorney General William Barr was scheduled to testify before House Judiciary Committee on special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Thursday, yet did not show up.

This decision was made due to the disagreement between Barr and a House Committee over questioning. Lawmakers did not see AG, but faced an empty chair, which ‘amused’ some of the Democratic members of the committee. They first jokingly looked under the desk to make sure William Barr wasn’t there and then placed a prop chicken by Barr’s microphone, trying to underscore that he was too afraid to come.

Chairman of the committee Jerrold Nadler said that if AG does not provide the committee

“with the information it demands and the respect that it deserves, Mr. Barr’s moment of accountability will come soon enough.”

Georgia Rep. Doug Collins said

“The reason Bill Barr isn’t here today is because the Democrats decided they didn’t want him here today.” He added that “Chairman Nadler sabotaged his own hearing. That’s sad. Because now Republicans and Democrats are not going to be able to question Bill Barr.”

It is worth mentioning that Republicans objected the suggested by Nadler form of questioning and said that staff questioning was unnecessary. According to them, Democrats “are trying to have impeachment hearings without going through the official process of impeachment”.
