Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya attended a meeting with Trump campaign officials in Trump Tower in June 2016 and later got charged in a different case with obstruction of justice.
Veselnitskaya was an attorney for Denis Katsyv, Russian businessman in New York, in a case directly connected to WIlliam Browder, an American-born investment fund manager who advocated for Magnitsky Act, which Veselnitskaya has been strongly opposing.
However, Veselnitskaya must have been chosen to be the one blamed for the wrongdoings of others long before the Trump Tower meeting. It suited Browder’s book to eliminate a person who could prove his made-up story about Sergei Magnitsky wrong and, at the same time, draw attention to the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
After the meeting and all the buzz around it, no one actually wants to come to know the particulars of it: what happened before and at the meeting, and why American officials are keeping their eye on a Russian lawyer, who is merely doing her job.
